They spoke about the joys and trials that door to door evangelists have experienced before and what volunteers can expect when they get involved. This week on RED-C Roundup our host Pam Marvin visited with Fr. Brian Eilers, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, about his recent time of sabbatical. Fr. Brian explained what a sabbatical is and what it is not, and why he chose to go on one recently for three months to the Holy Land. Fr. Brian and Pam also discussed some stories of his time on his sabbatical, and what a week in the life of his trip looked like, including his adventures, his times of prayer, and times of self-reflection. The conversation concluded on what the benefits of the sabbatical were for Fr. Brian, specifically how it renewed his heart as a priest and as a child of God.

From the inception of the Catholic Church in Central Texas in 1745 at the San Gabriel Missions to the creation of the Diocese of Austin, Faith & Perseverance: The History of the Catholic Church in Central Texas details the significant historic events that involved and impacted the Catholic Church’s development, growth, and success in the region. Comprehensive accounts of each bishop of Austin’s time in office, as well as stories of the men and women who supported them, are included in this extensive narrative.

This week on RED-C Roundup our host Deacon Mike Beauvais visited with Dr. Sandy Hapenney, Executive Life Coach and volunteer catechist in the Central Texas area. Deacon Mike and Sandy visited first about her faith, conversion, work, and family background. Sandy then spoke about her background in theology and how this has led her to multiple opportunities to share the Catholic Faith with a variety of people in a variety of settings. One of Sandy’s most recent opportunities to teach is at her local workshop entitled Guiding Youth to Sexual Integrity and Abundant Life, where she will teach students and parents about the Catholic Church’s teaching on human sexuality, especially in light of today’s confusion around gender roles and identities. More can be heard from Dr. Hapenney about sexual integrity at her local workshop, on Monday, February 6th at St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco.

The three visited in depth about the importance of a Catholic Education, starting first at home, and also at their two Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Austin. A general discussion was held about the values and benefits of a Catholic education at both schools. Special events and opportunities at both schools was also shared in this episode, especially in light of the upcoming Catholic Schools Week celebration.
